Charles Pollard Jones was born on 1858 June 13 at Montgomery, Montgomery Co., Ala. to Samuel Goode and Martha Ward (Goode) Jones. He graduated from the agricultural and mechanical college at Auburn and the University of the South at Sewanee, Tenn., then studied law at the office of Jones and Faulkner at Montgomery, and was admitted to the bar in 1881. He was a member of a law firm with his older brother Thomas from 1881 until 1901. In 1882 he entered the L & N Railroad law department as tax representative, and was appointed as L & N's district attorney in 1890. He was also division counsel for the Central of Georgia Railway and captain of the "Montgomery Greys", 1889-1895. He married Elizabeth May Murphy of New Orleans in 1891, and had two children. He died 1907 Nov. 6.

Thomas Goode Jones was born on 1844 Nov. 25 at Macon, Ga., to the same parents as Charles. He was educated in private schools in Montgomery, Ala. and in Va. In 1859 he entered the Virginia Military Institute, but left in 1862 to join the Confederate Army, eventually achieving the rank of major, and receiving four wounds. He studied law in the office of John A. Elmore in Montgomery, and was admitted to practice in 1866. In that year he also edited the Daily Picayune, a Montgomery paper, and married Georgena C. Bird of the same city. They had thirteen children, four of whom died in infancy. From 1870-1880 he authored eighteen volumes of Alabama Supreme Court reports. He was an alderman in Montgomery, 1876-1884, a member of the Alabama legislature, 1884-1888, and governor of Alabama, 1891-1895. He was appointed federal judge for the northern and middle districts of Alabama in 1901. He was a lifelong Democrat and Episcopalian, and died at Montgomery on 1914 Apr. 28.
