The Colfax Public Library was established in 1921. It also served as a public-school library for the duration of its existence. In 1944 the Whitman County Library district was voted into being, and shortly thereafter the Colfax Public Library was converted to become solely a school library. Those books thought not useful for a school library were donated to the new County Library.
