Sue M. Reed was employed in the Quartermaster and War-Ordnance departments of the U.S. War Dept. from 1935 to 1945. From 1950 to 1973 she worked as a journal clerk in the Iowa House of Representatives. An advocate of greater participation by women in civic and political affairs, Reed served as president of the Iowa Council of Republican Women (later the Iowa Federation of Republican Women) from 1963 to 1964 and as membershipchairman and historian of the National.
Federation of Republican Women from 1970 to 1975. In 1971 Governor Robert D. Ray appointed Reed to the State Medical Assistance Advisory Council. In 1972 she was the state volunteer chairman and the Polk County coordinator for the Nixon re-election campaign.
