Centre College, in Danville, Kentucky, was established in 1819 by Presbyterian leaders as a private nondenominational Christian institution of higher learning. The liberal arts college grew through consolidation with Central University, of Richmond, Kentucky, in 1901 and with Kentucky College for Women in 1926. It became fully coeducational in the 1960s.
