Variant namesBorn in New York. Completed four years of college before enlisting in the Army on September 16, 1942 at Hartford, Connecticut. Joined the newly formed 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment (later to become part of the 10th Mountain Division) at Fort Lewis, Washington. Served with Company F and with the Headquarters Company of the 3rd Battalion. Participated in the invasion of Kiska. Memoir deals with his experiences on the island. Retired as a sociologist and has climbed numerous famous mountain peaks.
