Beatty, William, 1758-1781

Captain William Beatty, eldest son of Col. William Beatty of Frederick Co., Maryland, was born June 18, 1758. Early in 1776 he entered the army, and was appointed an Ensign in the Maryland Flying Camp. He served almost uninterruptedly throughout the war, having risen to the rank of Captain, until his death at the battle of Hobkirk's Hill, April 25, 1781. Capt. Beatty was never married.
