The Worcester Theatre was built and operated by William Piper ( - ) and opened on February 9, 1857. It was the first theater in Worcester, Massachusetts, and was located on Front Street. Wyzeman Marshall ( - ) was the manager for the first season and the first production was Maria Anne Lacy Lovell's (1803-1877) translation of the play "Ingomar." The theater enjoyed several successful seasons until attendance declined at the outbreak of the Civil War. The theater closed in 1867 and the building was remodeled for offices.
