Richard O'Connor was an American actor, newspaper reporter, and author of biographies, popular histories, Western sagas, and murder mysteries. For his mysteries he used the pseudonyms Frank Archer, John Burke, and Patrick Wayland. He was born in 1915 in La Porte, Ind., and attended schools in Milwaukee. His biography, Bat Masterson, was the basis for a television series of the same name. Toward the end of his life he lived in Ellsworth, Maine.
