Edward Kolbe joined the faculty of Oregon State University Sea Grant and the Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station in 1974 as an Extension Engineering Specialist concentrating on fishing and aquaculture systems. Kolbe worked on a variety of projects including frozen storage of seafood and a heating process for the development of surimi. He held positions on the Corvallis campus and at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Food Innovation Center in Portland, and the Seafood Lab in Astoria. Kolbe retired in 2004.
