Stephen Peabody (1773-1851), the son of Stephen Peabody (1741-1819) and Mary (Haseltine) Peabody (1741-1793), was born at Atkinson, N.H. on 6 October 1773. He married, on 10 April 1810, Nancy Leonard Smith (1785-1856); they had five children. Peabody graduated from Harvard in 1794. For the period 8 January 1799 to 15 June 1800, he was Captain of the 15th Regiment of Infantry of the United States Army. He was a Representative to the Maine Legislature in 1808-1809 and judge of the court of Common Pleas for Hancock County in 1810. He died at Bucksport, Maine on 12 April 1851.
