The society met monthly to promote the study of and encourage research in medical history. They occupied a room at the St. Louis Medical Society and had their own library. They collected rare books and local archival and manuscript materials as sources for medical history. James Moores Ball, Robert E. Schlueter, Kenneth W. Millican, Nathaniel Allison were among the members.
