Scott Corbett was a U.S. Army newspaper correspondent and editor (1943-46), and an English teacher (1957-65). He is a recipient of the Edgar Allan Poe Award, Mystery Writers of America (1963), the Missouri Library Assn. Mark Twain Award (1976) and the University of Wisconsin Golden Archer Award (1978). Several of his books have been Junior Literary Guild selections.

Scott Corbett was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1913. He received a Bachelor's degree in journalism in 1934, and served in the U.S. Army in the 1940s and worked as an English teacher for some years. He published his first book in 1950 and his first children's book in 1956. He is a prolific writer of books for children and teenagers, seeing himself as a storyteller who believes that suspense and humor make for a good book.
