University Research Park (N.C.)

Located in northeast Charlotte near UNCC, University Research Park, Inc. was created in 1966 as a non-profit corporation established to provide the "proper setting and atmosphere to give birth to the new ideas and techniques that will lead Charlotte into the future" (brochure, 1968). Sponsored and initiated by the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce to promote and develop a research and development park for business corporations, the project draws its officers and directors primarily from the local business community. Tenants have included AT & T, Allstate, American Express, Dow Jones, Duke Power, IBM, and Southern Bell.
