The Harvard Foundation for Advanced Study and Research is the association of the alumni of the Graduate Schools of Arts and Sciences, Design, and Public Administration. All former students of the schools are members of the Foundation. Also included are graduates of predecessor bodies of these Graduate Schools. The Harvard Foundation serves the dual function of keeping the alumni in touch with research and teaching activities of the Graduate Schools and operating an annual fund for the benefit of the schools. The gifts of the graduate alumni are used to finance fellowships and to fund research for members of the faculties, and also to secure gifts from corporations and foundations to sponsor new scholarly projects. In 1964, the name was changed to Harvard Graduate Society for Advanced Study and Research, and apparently later to the Graduate Society.
