Crean Brush emigrated to New York from Ireland in 1762. From 1773-1775 he served in the New York legislature as a representative of the town of Wesminster, in what would later become Vermont, where he had accumulated extensive land holdings. During the Revolutionary War he served under British General Gage and was imprisoned by Revolutionary forces. Having lost his property, he committed suicide after the war ended.
