Kartchner, William Decatur, 1820-1892
Variant namesWilliam Decatur Kartchner was born in Philadelphia to John C. and Prudence Wilcox Kartchner. He converted to Mormonism in 1843 and moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. There he married Margaret Jane Casteel. They moved to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. The family started farming and subsequently moved to California, back to Utah, then settled in Arizona where Kartchner became postmaster.
