Sol Gutow was born in Poland on January 12, 1926. He emigrated to the United States in 1934. Gutow was drafted ouf of high school and assigned to Fort Sill, Okla. for artilliary training. He joined the 10th Mountain Division in Italy from the 8th Replacement Depot and was assigned to Company B of the 605th Field Artillery Battalion. During the Italian Campaign, Gutow served as a wireman and forward artillery observer. He died in Skokie, Ill. on August 15, 1997.
