Eloise Jarvis McGraw was born December 9, 1915, in Houston, TX, and died November 30, 2000, in Portland Or. She became a writer of fiction, fantasy, and mysteries for children and young adults, and won three Newbery Honors for her work, along with many other awards and honors. She was also an artist, and created the covers for many of her titles. She and her husband also traveled a lot, mostly in this country and in Europe.
