Rena C. Harrell (1891-1973), the daughter of Rev. J. J. Harrell and Margaret McIver Harrell, was born in Carthage, North Carolina on August 31, 1891. She received an A. B. from Queen's College, Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1912, an M. A. from the University of North Carolina in 1924, and a degree from the Emory School of Librarianship in 1943. She was for many years a librarian at Queen's College, Charlotte, North Carolina.
