W.P. Davies was born on a farm near Brantford, Ontario, October 29, 1862. Davies was raised and educated near Newport, Ontario. He went to work at the age of 15 as a clerk in a grocery store. In 1882, Davies immigrated to North Dakota. He worked as a railroad surveyor near Jamestown and then began to farm near Angus in 1885.
In 1885, Davies married Rachel Spence (d. 1939) of Ethel, Ontario, a union that produced two children, Mabel S. and Russel G. The Davies family moved to Grand Forks in 1893, where Davies initially worked as a carpenter and teacher. He joined the staff of the Grand Forks Herald in 1897, starting as a reporter and moving up to editor-in-chief. He wrote a daily column (1930-1944) entitled "That Reminds Me", which was an almanac of current events, opinions, trends, history, and popular culture. Davies served as president of the Grand Forks Civic and Commerce Association and was president of the Grand Forks Building and Loan Association. He died in Grand Forks on Friday, May 19, 1944.
