Harry W. Brooks, Jr., was born 17 May 1928 in Indianapolis, Ind. He graduated from Crispus Attucks High School and at age 19 enlisted as a private in the United States Army. He married Doris Elizabeth Greene (1930-1979) in 1948. Brooks served in the Korean and Vietnamese Wars, becoming a major general in 1974. His military career included commander, 72nd Field Artillery Group (1970-1972), army director, Equal Opportunity Programs, Pentagon (1972), assistant commander of 2nd Division, Korea (1973-1974), and commanding general of the 25th Infantry Division, Hawaii. Brooks received a number of medals and citations, including the Distinguished Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. Brooks retired from the army in 1976 and helped to found the Advanced Consumer Marketing Corporation.
