Prior to 1954, Othello was without a Lutheran Church. When the Columbia Basin Project began, the Mission Committee of the American Lutheran Church made a study of the Basin and purchased the present property. On March 8, 1954, the Mission Committee called Rev. Delber Zier to serve as pastor and missionary in the area. Evening services were held until July of that year, when morning services were first held. A parsonage was completed and a basement chapel dedicated on November 21, 1954. Pilgrim Congregation was officially established on April 24, 1955 with a membership of 53 confirmed and 85 baptized. Groundbreaking for the church was conducted in August of that year and dedication was held October 28, 1956. In 1962 an additional unit was dedicated. In 1983 about half of the physical plant was destroyed by fire. The sanctuary, parish hall and other facilities were then rebuilt and enlarged.
