International Typographical Union. Local 203 (Council Bluffs, Iowa)

Hide Profile

The Bluff City Typographical Union held its first meeting in October 1882 and applied for a charter with the International Typographical Union. By 1910 the Local had almost thirty members and worked to insure that Council Bluffs printers only hired union labor. Membership peaked at forty-five in the late 1960s, but technological change and an aging membership reduced Local 203's membership in the 1970s. In 1985 the Local merged with ITU Local 118 in Des Moines, Iowa.
