Sheldon Marble Co.

The Sheldon Marble Co. had its start in 1844 when its West Rutland quarry was developed by D. Morgan Jr. and Co. In 1850 Charles Sheldon, his brothers, and David Morgan worked the quarry under the name of Sheldons, Morgan and Co. They were succeeded by Sheldons, Morgan and Slason in 1856, and then Sheldons and Slason upon David Morgan's retirement. In 1881 Charles H. Slason retired and the firm became Sheldon and Sons, and in 1888 the Sheldon Marble Co. was formed. The Sheldon Marble Co. was leased to the Vermont Marble Co. for thirty years in 1891 which eventually led to their purchase.
