Texas Heritage Foundation, Inc.

Hide Profile

Founded in 1948, the Texas Heritage Foundation educated the public, especially youths and new citizens, about the “heroic past” of Texas. To support its mission, the THF acquired historical Texas documents, distributed Texas flags to servicemen abroad and copies of historical documents to schools and libraries, as well as funded portraits of historical figures and the identification of landmarks. The foundation also published historical books, pamphlets, and periodicals, such as its monthly magazine Under Texas Skies and A. Garland Adair’s book Texas Pictorial Handbook, and established a Hall of Remembrance and Distinguished Service Medal to recognize the work of individual educators and historians in Texas. Officers of the foundation included Chairman of the Board Karl Hoblitzelle, Executive Director A. Garland Adair, President Judge C. V. Terrell, and the sitting governor of Texas as Honorary Chairman.
