Newark Banking & Insurance Company (N.J.)
On February 15, 1804, The Newark Banking and Insurance Company was granted a charter by the New Jersey Legislature, and became the first bank in Newark, New Jersey. The bank operated in the dwelling of the Hon. Smith Burnet (1772-1830) on Broad Street near Market Street in Newark, but soon moved to a building on Broad Street near Bank Street.
