Photographer and founder of the studios of Realist Artists. Poignant was born in England of Anglo-Swedish descent in 1906. He came to Australia in the 1930s. He produced art catalogues and art books for the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Photographer. An extensive bush photographer, he was a member of the Naturalists' Club of Perth, together with naturalist Vincent Serventy and publisher and editor Norman Hall. As a freelance photo journalist, his photographs and films were used by "Life" magazine, the BBC and the "Times."
