Jacob Leveen (1891-1980), Hebraist, was born on 24 December 1891. He was educated in London at Jews' College, University College London and the School of Oriental and African Studies. He joined the British Museum in 1914, where he was Deputy Keeper, Department of Oriental Printed Books and Manuscripts, 1944-1953, and Keeper, 1953-1956. He died on 1 August 1980.
