The Dept. of Air and Water Pollution Control was created in 1969 (Ch. 69-109, Laws) to supersede the Florida Air and Water Pollution Control Commission. It was renamed the Dept. of Pollution Control in 1972 (Ch. 72-22, Laws). It was responsible for the development and enforcement of programs for the prevention, abatement, and control of air and water pollution. It was governed by the Air and Water Pollution Control Board which was appointed by the Governor.
