Lucy Wheelock founded the Wheelock Kindergarten Training School (Boston Mass.) in 1888 to provide education for teachers of young children. She served as Principal until 1940 when she was named Principal Emeritus, later President Emeritus when the School became Wheelock College in 1941. She was President of the International Kindergarten Union and served on committees of the National Congress of Mothers, a forerunner of the Parent Teacher Association.
