Steubenville Female Seminary
Variant namesThe Steubenville Female Seminary was established in Steubenville, Ohio, in 1829 by Presbyterian minister Charles Clinton Beatty. Beatty served as superintendent and his wife, Hetty Beatty, served as the school's principal. At its peak, the school had 150 students enrolled at one time and approximately 12 teachers. After educating 5,000 women, many of whom became Christian missionaries, the school closed in 1898.
