Le Moyne, Simon, 1604-1665.
French Jesuit missionary to the Hurons (Wyandots), southeast of Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada.
Born in Beauvais, France, Le Moyne arrived in Québec in June of 1638, and travelled with Father Jérôme Lalemant, the new Jesuit Superior, and Father François du Peron to Huron territory in late summer. He worked among the Hurons until 1649, and returned to Québec in 1650. As an ambassador of peace to the Iroquois, Father Le Moyne made six trips into Iroquois country between 1654-1662, each time risking his life. He died at Cap-de-la-Madeleine on Nov. 24, 1665.
