Biography

John Jackson was born on August 9, 1905 in Los Angeles, Calif., and received a BA in English at UCLA in 1927. While at UCLA, he was involved with student publications (Southern Campus, Grizzly and Bruin), various student organizations, and athletics (halfback on the football team and sprinter on the track team). His career has been centered on writing in various ways: as a scenario writer for Fox Films, manager of the school annual department of Carl A. Bundy Quill and Press (1927-39), publications editor for Walt Disney productions (1955-61) and manager of the Office of Publication Services at UCLA (1961-72). He was also Executive Director of the UCLA Alumni Association from 1939-55. He has been associated with UCLA in various ways since graduation, either as member or trustee of organizations or as editor of publications. He has written two histories of UCLA: the first, published in 1937, has the title, California of the Southland: A history of the University of California at Los Angeles ; the second, published in 1969, had the title, UCLA on the move during fifty golden years, 1919-1969 .
