Van Rensselaer, Henry, 1851-1901
Variant namesHenry I. (Hendrick) Van Rensselaer (ca. 1742-1813) was the son fo Johannes (1708-1783) and Engeltie (Livingston) Van Rensselaer who had inherited Claverack from his father Hendrick. Henry I. Van Rensselaer married Rachel Douw in 1765. In 1777 he was commissioned a Colonel of the Continental Forces. Johannes Van Rensselaer died in 1783 and in 1784 Claverack was divided between his children. Claverack originally encompassed lands south of Kinderhook, north of Livingston Manor, and west to the Hudson River and was the "Lower Manor" to the "Upper Manor" of Rensselaerwyck.
