Historical Background
The Department of Music was founded in 1965 under the Division of Fine Arts. The program provided training in performance, music theory, and music history. Initially the program offered only a Bachelor of Arts degree, but in 1969 the Division of Fine Arts began to offer a Master of Fine Arts degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in music. This degree was changed in 1970 to a Master of Fine Arts in Music.
