Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas.
Organized in Topeka, Kan., in 1902 to unite all native Kansans in "one harmonious body," and to labor for the best interests of the State; dissolved shortly thereafter. In 1915 the Native Daughters of Kansas was re-established by Mrs. DeWitt C. Nellis of Topeka; this group was a patriotic organization, and its purpose was to preserve Kansas history, show loyalty to Kansas traditions, honor pioneer ancestors, and instill ideals of patriotism in youth. The Native Sons became active in 1918, and the two groups held joint meetings. They merged to form the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas.
