Biography/History
Elizabeth Anne Bonner was born on February 19, 1924 in Dallas, Texas to Thomas and Annabelle (Newman) Bonner. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1944. In 1946, she married Raymond Kerns Glasscock. They had two children, Margaret and David. A Sacramento, California resident from 1953-1981, she worked for several years as director of Episcopal Community Services at St. Paul's Center.
Writing under the name Michael Bonner, she published four books of Western fiction. Her first novel, Kennedy's Gold, was published in 1960. Then followed The Iron Noose in 1961, Shadow of the Hawk in 1963, and The Disturbing Death of Jenkin Delaney in 1966. She later published a book of poetry, Renaissance.
She chose to write Western fiction because of "a life-long interest in the history of the westward movement in this country and a belief that this was one of the most vital factors in our national development. Also, a western is a good framework in which to demonstrate the eternal tension between order and lawlessness, good and evil; its dramatic possibilities are boundless."
Glasscock died on October 27, 1981.
