The Rev. Dean Berg began knocking on doors on September 1, 1966. The first worship service was held at Thoreau School on October 30 of that year with 120 in attendance. The present site was purchased December 20, 1966. Charter Sunday was March 5, 1967, with 169 signing the charter. Organization Sunday was April 9th, with 196 members. Membership at the end of 1983 numbered 774. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held February 28, 1968, and the building was dedicated six months later, on October 6. The church burned in 1974 and was rebuilt. At that time the narthex was enlarged. Groundbreaking for the present sanctuary took place October 10, 1982, and it was dedicated on September 11, 1983.
