Xavier University purchased a three year option to purchase the Edgecliff College property in 1980. In 1983 the purchase was completed. In 1987 Xavier University sold the Edgecliff property but incorporated many of the Edgecliff academic programs into its curriculum.
Originally called Our Lady of Cincinnati College at its founding in 1935 by the Sisters of Mercy, the college educated young women exclusively until 1970 when it opened its classrooms to men and adopted a new name ... Edgecliff College. On July 1, 1980 Xavier University announced that it had purchased from the Sisters of Mercy a three year option to buy the Edgecliff campus property by June 30, 1983. Edgecliff College then became known as Edgecliff College of Xavier University, the fourth undergraduate college at Xavier University. In the Spring of 1983 Xavier completed the purchase of the Edgecliff property from the Sisters of Mercy. In April, 1987 Xavier University sold the Edgecliff property. Academic programming was transferred to the main Xavier campus that year. Edgecliff's departments of art, music, and theatre arts joined the College of Arts and Sciences, while its departments of nursing and social work were incorporated into Xavier's new College of Professional Studies.

The Academic Program Review was a university-wide study of academic departments and offices conducted in 2002-2003.
Each department and program was asked to supply information concerning its operations including its importance as it relates to the mission and vision of the university. The completed work of this review process was later used by the Xavier University Academic Planning Task Force to make a report judging the individual effectiveness of elements within the university community.

Since Xavier University was initially accredited in 1925 by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (now known as the Higher Learning Commission), the university has been regularly reviewed for re-accreditation.
Xavier University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC). Xavier first joined the North Central Association of College and Schools, as the HLC was originally called, in 1925. There have been regular comprehensive reviews of the Xavier since that time along with focused visits by a review team. These occurred approximately every ten years. Accreditation was lost in 1934 for about one year over athletic issues pertaining principally to the football program, but it has been held continuously since 1935. Until the late 1990s, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and School was simply referred to as the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). In earlier years, the official "visit" of the NCA review team, which took place every ten years, was sometimes referred to as the "Survey." Similarly, the institutional Self-Study which Xavier now undergoes in preparation for the Visit was referred to as the "Schedules."

On various occasions between 1970 and 2000 the Board of Trustees established an ad hoc committee to find a new president for Xavier University.
Prior to 1970-71, the president had been appointed by the Superior General of the Society of Jesus in Rome on the recommendation of the Provincial Superior. In 1970-71 that policy changed and the Board of Trustees became responsible for choosing the president.
The 1970-71 search committee was actually asked to find a Provost for Xavier. But this was in fact a presidential search because the Board of Trustees had also decided that the Provost would automatically become the University president in a few years. (See Fortin's To See Great Wonders, page 269.) In January, 1971 the Board of Trustees, acting on the recommendation of the search committee, named Fr. Robert W. Mulligan, S.J., the University Provost. Fr. Mulligan became president on September 8, 1972.
In 1980-81 another search committee was set up to find a successor to Fr. Mulligan. This committee recommended Fr. Charles L. Currie, S.J., who became president in the summer of 1982.
In 1985-86 a search committee was established to find a successor to Fr. Currie. As a result of this search, Fr. Albert DiUlio, S.J., was named president in May, 1986.
In January, 2000, another search committee was created to find a successor to Fr. James Hoff. This search resulted in Fr. Michael Graham, S.J. being named president.
Materials for the search committee which appointed Fr. James Hoff in 1991 are not presently found in the Xavier University Archives.

Since the 1960's the Xavier University undergraduate core curriculum has undergone major revisions. One occurred from 1966 to 1968, and the other from 1988 to 1991. In 2008 the Gender and Diversity Studies Minor Committee recommended to the Board of Undergraduate Studies changes to the Diversity Requirement in the Core Curriculum. These changes were subsequently approved by the Board of Trustees.
The 1966-1968 committee was overseen by the Xavier Academic Council. The 1988-1991 committee was created by then Xavier president Albert DiUlio,S.J. under the chairmanship of Dr. Norman Barry of the Psychology Department.

This collection entails those Xavier University Schedule of Classes held by Xavier University Archives. The earliest issue in this collection dates from 1959. This archival collection, though substantial, is not complete.
From at least 1974 to 1989, four different schedules of classes were published each semester for the various academic divisions of the University. All undergraduate courses, day and evening, appeared in one publication produced by the Office of the Registrar. The College of Continuing Education, later called the Center for Adult and Part-Time Students, published its own Schedule of Classes, though its courses were also listed in the Registrar's brochure. The Graduate School (Programs) published its bulletin of courses. Similarly, the Master of Business Program had its own printed schedule.
However, beginning with the Fall Semester 1989, just one Schedule of Classes was published each semester in a newspaper format for all courses (graduate, undergraduate, day and evening). There was one exception: courses in the Weekend Program, which began in 1995, were usually not included in this Schedule of Classes, but were published separately.
Summer courses were always published in a separate bulletin which included all summer classes, graduate, undergraduate, day and evening.
Beginning the the Fall of 2009, the Semester Schedule of Classes no longer appeared in printed form. It was available only online. However, the Summer Sessions continued to publish its class schedule in a paper format as in the past.
