Sherer, John Calvin, 1852-1949

John Calvin Sherer, California pioneer, businessman, and author, was born in Maryland in 1852. He moved to California in 1875 where he worked for the Western Union Telegraph Company. He owned a ranch in what is now Glendale, California. Sherer helped form the Los Angeles Athletic Club and the Southern California Fruit Exchange. In 1922 he wrote History of Glendale and vicinity. He died in 1949.
