David C. Duncan retired from the Pennsylvania State University as emeritus professor of physics in 1953.

Dr. David C. Duncan was born in Churchville, New York. He received a bachelor's degree in 1911, master's degree in 1913, and Ph.D. in 1924 from the University of Michigan. From 1911 through 1917, he was on the staff of the Purdue University physics department. David C. Duncan joined Penn State as assistant professor of physics in 1918 and was made full professor in 1920. Duncan served as acting head of the physics department in 1920 and again from 1950 until his retirement in 1953 as emeritus professor of physics. For thirteen years he was a part-time employee of the U.S. Intelligence Service. He headed the committee that administered the affairs of the physics department from 1944 to 1947. In 1976, a David Duncan professorship in physical sciences was established at Cornell University. In 1981, he was awarded a distinguished service award from Penn State's College of Science Alumni Society. He died at the age of 95 at Valley View Nursing Home, Belleville, Pennsylvania.
