Variant namesThe Commission on Industrial Relations was established in the wake of mounting conflict and violence in American labor relations and especially as a result of the dynamiting in 1910 of the Los Angeles Times building by two labor union officials. The Commission was composed of nine members representing employers, employees, and the public. Its duty was to study the labor relations situation in the U.S., seek to discover the causes of dissatisfaction in the industrial situation and report its conclusions to Congress. The purpose of the Research and Investigation Division's work was to provide a solid foundation of evidence on which the Commission could base its final report.
