Alfred E. Wilhelmi, educator and researcher in biochemistry, was educated at Western Reserve University (B.A.) and attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar (B.A. and Ph.D.). Wilhelmi came to Emory from the faculty of Yale University in 1950 as professor and chairman of the biochemistry department; was named Charles Howard Candler Professor of Biochemistry in 1960; received Emory's Thomas Jefferson award for service to the University and community in 1979; and retired from teaching in that same year.
