New Jersey State Village for Epileptics established at Skillman, Montgomery Township, Somerset County, N.J., in 1898 for the care and treatment of children with epilepsy; in 1952 it was felt that due to advances in treatment for epileptics, the facility was no longer needed, and in 1953 it was replaced by the New Jersey Neuro-Psychiatric Institute which was organized to provide care and treatment for those suffering from brain and nervous system disorders, including cerebral palsy cases, juvenile psychotics, and abusers of alcohol or drugs, as well as perform neurological research; in 1983 renamed North Princeton Developmental Center.
