Hide Profile

Lewis W. Tubbs, judge and rancher, moved from Iowa to California in 1849 to pursue a mining venture.

He returned to Iowa shortly thereafter, establishing himself as a stock and grain producer. Volney V. Tubbs (b. 1868), one of Lewis's six sons and daughters, followed the path of his father, moving to California in 1887 or 1888 and settling in Tustin. He was active in agricultural and civic affairs. He served on the Board of Directors of the Santiago Orange Association and he was also chairman of the Board of Exemption during World War I. He married Lillian M. Dixson and had four children, including Dixson Tubbs and Mabel Louise Tubbs, the donor of this collection.
