Brigadier General Elkanah Braken Greer was born in Paris, Tenn., on Oct. 13, 1825. He entered the Confederate army in May 1861 and eventually became chief of the Bureau of Conscription for the Trans-Mississippi Dept. of the Confederate States of America. He died in Devall's Bluff, Ark. on March 25, 1877.
William Stedman was born in Pittsboro, North Carolina in 1822. Although elected attorney general of Texas in 1863, he did not qualify and instead entered the Confederate army as a major on the staff of Greer. He died in Marshall, Texas on Nov. 6, 1890.
