Sarah Cobb Baxter was the daughter of Judge Howell Cobb and Mary McKinley Cobb of Athens, Georgia, and granddaughter of General Howell Cobb. She was married to Richard Bolling Baxter of Sparta, but spent most of her life in Athens.

Howell Cobb (1842-1909), son of General Howell Cobb, was an Athens attorney. He married Mary McKinley. He was a judge and a professor of law at the University of Georgia.
