Fletcher L. Byrom enrolled in the metallurgy curriculum at Pennsylvania State College, graduating in 1940. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus in 1963 and an Alumni Fellow in 1974. A former trustee of the University, he was past president and a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association and was honorary chairman of the Class of 1940's 40th Reunion. In 13 years he rose to the presidency of Koppers Company, Inc. becoming one of the youngest presidents of a major corporation in the nation at that time.
