1925 became a follower of Gandhi; 1925 arrived in India; 1931 attended the Second Indian Round Table Conference, London; 1932-1933 imprisoned as a result of the non-cooperation movement; 1934 travelled with Gandhi on his travels to seek support for India Independence; 1942-1944 arrested and detained in the Aga Khan Palace, Pune; c 1950 founded the Kisan Ashram, near Roorkee; c 1952 founded the Pashulok Ashram, near Rishikesh; 1952 founded the settlements of Bapu Gram and Gopal Ashram, Bhilangana; 1959 returned to England; 1960 moved to Austria; 1981 awarded the Padma Vibhushan.
