Norris, Albert Lane, 1839-1919.

Albert L. Norris was born and raised in Epping, N.H. He was educated at Phillips Exeter and Wilabraham academies. Norris spent his early career clerking in dry goods stores. In 1862, he enrolled at Harvard medical college and served as an assistant surgeon during the Civil War, participating in the Peninsular Campaign of 1862. After receiving his medical degree in 1865, Norris studied at hospitals in Vienna, Berlin, Edinburg, and London. Upon his return from Europe, he settled in Cambridge, Ma. and began a distinguished medical practice. In 1873, Norris married Cora E. Perley of Laconia, N.H.; they had two daughters and a son, who also became a doctor. When Norris retired in 1910, he moved to Malden, Ma. with his daughters.

Norris was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, and the Massachusetts Medical Society. In 1890, he was a delegate to the Tenth International Medical Congress in Berlin and received an honorary degree from Wiley University. Norris died in August, 1919.
